Litecoin Official Account Taunts XRP: Can’t the Word Retarded Anymore

The official Litecoin account has never been shy about XRP. The recent post is no exception.
The Litecoin X account posted a question that set off an immediate wave of responses from the XRP community: “Me finding out I can’t use the word retarded for XRP anymore.”
The post was accompanied by the iconic meme of Lionel Messi nodding. The post carried the tone of a project that has been needling XRP for some time. The timing was notable. XRP is trading at $1.18, down 8.6% from yesterday, joining a market-wide crash that followed major Democratic victories in the U.S. midterm elections.
Litecoin has fared slightly better. It is trading at $52.75, down just 4.31%. The decline did not stop it from taking shots at XRP.

Litecoin’s History of Going After XRP
This was not the first time Litecoin took aim at XRP. The official account previously compared XRP to “a comet that smells like rotten eggs,” suggesting retail investors were misled into believing XRP would replace SWIFT.
That post drew calls for legal action from some corners of the XRP community and was widely seen as unusually aggressive for an official project account.
Around that time, a prominent Litecoin community figure also weighed in on real-world payment comparisons, claiming he had never witnessed a single XRP transaction in years of managing crypto payment gateways. The pattern is consistent. Litecoin has taken both subtle and overt shots at XRP, and the XRP community has repeatedly pushed back.
The XRP Community Fires Back
The latest post drew a fierce reaction. Several community members dismissed the criticism entirely and turned it back on Litecoin. One user told Litecoin it had been underperforming against other coins for years. He questioned its right to comment, adding that Litecoin should be ashamed of its performance compared to assets like ZCASH.
One user said the post showed “idiotic” behavior and suggested Litecoin find a more fitting word to describe itself instead. Another commenter took a more direct route, saying he uses the word “retard” exclusively for Litecoin going forward.
The Tension in the Market
The exchange captures an ongoing tension between two established crypto communities with sharply different views on what gives a digital asset value. Litecoin draws its case from mining, energy cost, and verifiable on-chain activity. XRP supporters point to Ripple’s institutional partnerships and the asset’s cross-border utility.
Neither side appears close to conceding ground, and with XRP trading near multi-month lows, Litecoin’s supporters see this as the right moment to press the argument.
