Ripple Transfers $389 Million in XRP Amid Binance Hack Fallout

TL;DR
- Ripple moved a combined 310 million XRP, worth approximately $389 million, across three transactions on October 30.
- The transfers occurred hours after Ripple confirmed its assistance in tracking and freezing assets connected to Binance’s security breach.
- On-chain data has not established a direct connection between the XRP movements and the Binance incident, leaving the precise purpose of the transfers undisclosed.
Ripple has transferred approximately $389 million worth of XRP in a series of large transactions, drawing attention to the company’s treasury activity as the cryptocurrency industry responds to Binance’s massive security incident. The movements come at a sensitive moment for digital assets, with blockchain companies coordinating efforts to trace and recover affected funds.
According to data tracked by Whale Alert, the transactions involved 310 million XRP and occurred within minutes on Friday, October 30, when the token traded near $1.25. Although Ripple has not publicly explained the transfers, their timing has generated interest among investors monitoring institutional activity.

Ripple’s $389 Million XRP Transfers Raise Questions
Blockchain records show three separate movements involving Ripple-linked wallets. The largest transaction sent 120 million XRP, worth approximately $150.57 million, to an unidentified address.
The other two transactions involved 90,000,001 XRP and 99,999,999 XRP, valued at approximately $112.96 million and $125.56 million, respectively. Both transfers moved funds from unidentified wallets into an address associated with Ripple.
Together, these transactions represented approximately $389.08 million in XRP. However, large blockchain transfers do not automatically indicate selling activity. Corporate treasury management, liquidity arrangements, custody operations and internal wallet reorganizations can also generate substantial movements.
Ripple has not confirmed whether the transactions represent an operational adjustment, a liquidity-related operation or another financial activity. Consequently, interpreting the transfers as an immediate sell-off would be premature without additional evidence.
Binance Security Breach Puts XRP Under Closer Scrutiny
The transfers coincided with Ripple’s involvement in the response to Binance’s October 29 security incident. Binance initially estimated the financial impact at approximately $6.3 billion and reported that its investigation pointed to a potentially compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop.
The exchange also confirmed that blockchain partners had helped freeze approximately $3 billion in affected assets. Binance pledged to cover the losses through its SAFU fund and corporate resources, while temporarily suspending withdrawals during security checks.
Ripple’s participation illustrates the importance of cooperation between centralized exchanges, blockchain developers and digital asset issuers when major security incidents occur. Nevertheless, XRP and Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD have different technical characteristics. Ripple can freeze RLUSD under its issuer controls, but it cannot simply freeze native XRP held by an independent wallet.
