Binance Hackers Ignored XRP

As news of the Binance breach broke on October 29, Cobb (@Cobb_XRPL), a prominent figure in XRP circles, posted an observation that caught attention across the community. He wrote, “The Binance hacker didn’t bother to steal any XRP.”

The post he referenced revealed that the hacked wallet was on the Ethereum network. It contained no XRP.

It noted the presence of RLUD among the affected assets. That detail became a focal point for XRP holders watching the chaos unfold.

The Biggest Hack in Crypto History

The breach itself was historic. Binance, the world’s largest exchange, confirmed a security incident affecting approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets. Attackers moved funds across 10 blockchains in roughly 20 minutes.

Binance says a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop gave them access to a service container, enabling unauthorized withdrawals from Ethereum hot wallets. About $3 billion has since been frozen on-chain.

Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals and pledged to cover all losses. The attack surpasses the $1.5 billion Bybit hack of 2025, making it the largest crypto theft on record.

Why XRP Was Absent

The reason XRP escaped the breach is technical. XRP operates on the XRP Ledger, not Ethereum. The hackers targeted Ethereum infrastructure exclusively. RLUSD runs on both the XRPL and Ethereum network, explaining its presence among the stolen assets. XRP had no presence in those wallets to begin with.

Community Responses

Reaction in the thread reflected both technical clarity and community confidence. One response addressed the architecture. Native XRP lives on the XRP Ledger and cannot exist inside an Ethereum wallet, so there was no path for the attackers to reach it.

Another user confirmed the same technical detail, noting that RLUSD is also Ethereum-native, which explains its presence in the compromised wallet.

Many in the community made jokes out of her situation. One commenter said the XRP community was in trouble because even hackers don’t want to hold the asset. Another made a similar joke about hackers not wanting XRP, writing, “we are cooked.”

The Bigger Picture

The crypto market has been under attack lately, as Ledger lost over $91 million to a hardware wallet breach less than a month ago. The Binance breach raises serious questions about hot wallet security across the industry.

While XRP was absent from the hack, the event has caused a market-wide decline and many market participants have serious questions about the safety of their assets.
