What Ripple CEO Tells XRP Army After Democrats Win House and Senate

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse took to X on Wednesday with a message that cuts against the prevailing mood in the crypto industry.

Democrats had just won control of both the House and Senate in a decisive midterm sweep, and many in the space were bracing for legislative headwinds. Garlinghouse was not among them.

“Pro-crypto members won on both sides of the aisle,” he wrote, adding that the 67 million Americans using crypto “aren’t going anywhere.” His conclusion was clear: “New Congress, with the same mission: clear rules, built in America.”

Pro-crypto members won on both sides of the aisle….and the 67M (and growing) Americans using crypto aren’t going anywhere.

Alderoty’s Take on the Results

Garlinghouse was responding to a post from Ripple’s Chief Legal Officer, Stuart Alderoty. Alderoty acknowledged that some coverage would call the election a setback for crypto but pushed back on that reading. He cited wins by pro-crypto candidates in both parties and noted that the Fairshake PAC had secured meaningful wins in primaries and the general election.

He pointed to early Stand With Crypto data showing a “substantial number of pro-crypto members elected across both parties.” Alderoty also confirmed Ripple’s commitment to continued advocacy.

Where the Legislation Stands

The optimism from both executives arrives at a complicated moment for crypto regulation. The Clarity Act has not yet passed the Senate. Democrats blocked its advance in September, and the new Democratic majority raises real questions about its timeline.

Senator Cynthia Lummis, a key Senate sponsor of the bill, has repeatedly warned that this Congress represented the last realistic window for comprehensive digital asset legislation. She predicted that failure could push proper legislation to 2030. With Democrats now holding both chambers when the new Congress convenes in January, that warning carries additional force.

The XRP Army Reacts

One community member captured the frustration. He stated that Rep. Maxine Waters is heading the House Financial Services Committee, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, well-known for her anti-Trump and anti-crypto position, is chairing the Senate Banking Committee.

He also described an escalating turf war between the SEC and CFTC, and asked, “how did crypto win?” Many others share this bearish stance, with another community member stating that the crypto community can’t trust Democrats.

The Case for Optimism

Garlinghouse’s post shows a consistent stance he has held throughout Ripple’s own legal battles and the broader industry’s regulatory struggles. Pro-crypto candidates did win races across the political spectrum, and the 67 million American crypto users represent a constituency no party can easily ignore.

Alderoty echoed that sentiment. He described the pro-crypto coalition as the product of years of engagement from ,”grassroots advocates to industry organizations.” He said those relationships will remain central to pushing for clear rules in digital assets and the tech economy.
