Thailand to Block Bitget Access on December 5 Following SEC Criminal Complaint
Summary
- Thailand’s SEC filed criminal complaints against Bitget and a local promoter over alleged unlicensed cryptocurrency trading and marketing activities.
- Authorities plan to block Bitget’s website, associated domains, and mobile application starting December 5 following the regulator’s formal enforcement request.
- Bitget’s planned acquisition of licensed Thai exchange GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics remains subject to regulatory approvals amid ongoing investigations into earlier operations.
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has moved to restrict Bitget’s operations, with access to the cryptocurrency exchange scheduled for December 5. According to the regulator’s announcement, Bitget’s operating company, BG Limited, and promoter Kritsana Kritsananuwat face criminal allegations over unlicensed digital asset trading services in Thailand.
Thai SEC Targets Bitget Over Alleged Unlicensed Crypto Trading
The Thai SEC filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited following an investigation into the exchange’s activities between 2022 and 2025. Investigators found that Bitget allegedly facilitated cryptocurrency transactions and collected trading fees without obtaining regulatory authorization.
According to the SEC’s official announcement, several features indicated that Bitget actively targeted customers within Thailand. These included a Thai-language website, cryptocurrency prices displayed in baht equivalents, and promotional activities across social media platforms.
Additionally, investigators identified Thai-language marketing campaigns on X, Telegram, and TikTok that promoted the exchange’s services to local users. The regulator determined that these activities constituted digital asset exchange operations under Thailand’s 2018 Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses.
Significantly, the complaint also identifies Kritsana Kritsananuwat for allegedly supporting Bitget’s marketing through the Srisiam Facebook page and SRISIAM YouTube channel. Authorities referred the allegations to the Economic Crime Suppression Division, which will investigate the case before potential prosecution and court proceedings.
Thailand’s SEC has requested assistance from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to restrict access to Bitget’s online services. Under the proposed enforcement schedule, authorities will block the exchange’s primary website, associated domains, and mobile application starting December 5, 2026.
The restrictions target access to Bitget’s services within Thailand, where cryptocurrency exchanges must secure authorization before serving domestic customers. Meanwhile, the criminal complaint represents allegations rather than a court determination of wrongdoing, with further legal proceedings required to establish liability.
Bitget’s Planned Thai Acquisition Faces Regulatory Complications
The enforcement action comes as Bitget pursues an acquisition intended to establish a licensed presence within Thailand’s cryptocurrency market. Bitget previously announced plans to acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics, a company operating a licensed digital asset exchange and brokerage in Thailand.
Through the proposed transaction, Bitget aims to introduce its trading services through an existing locally authorized platform. Nevertheless, the acquisition remains subject to completion and the necessary regulatory approvals before the company can pursue those plans.
The SEC’s complaint concerns Bitget’s earlier activities, while the proposed acquisition represents a separate route toward operating under Thailand’s licensing framework. The December 5 blocking schedule remains in place as authorities pursue the criminal allegations and Bitget works toward its proposed acquisition.
