How To Keep Your XRP Safe

Crypto commentator Digital Asset Investor recently addressed the Binance hack and the growing threat of AI-driven attacks.

He offered a security strategy he says has protected his holdings through years of bull and bear markets. His advice on how to keep XRP safe is practical, experience-based, and timely.

The Binance Hack

On October 29, 2026, hackers drained an estimated $6.3 billion from Binance hot wallets in what is now the largest theft in financial history. Blockchain analysts have attributed the attack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean state-sponsored hacking group.

Binance has suspended withdrawals and pledged to cover all losses. The breach reportedly began with a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, giving attackers access to the exchange’s infrastructure.

Binance is not alone. The Bybit exchange lost $1.5 billion in early 2025 in a similar attack. These incidents share a common thread: the funds targeted were sitting in hot wallets, meaning they were connected to the internet and accessible to the outside world.

AI as a Tool for Bad Actors

Artificial intelligence has enormous legitimate uses across finance, medicine, and technology. It has also helped as a security tool in the crypto space, finding exploits and helping save hundreds of billions of dollars. However, it also has a growing criminal application in crypto.

AI-enabled scams have risen significantly in 2026. Deepfake videos, cloned voices, and phishing campaigns now run at machine speed, targeting thousands of victims simultaneously.

How To Keep XRP Safe

Digital Asset Investor has been through nearly every major crypto cycle and hack over the years, and he shared a strategy he says has kept his assets protected throughout. His core recommendation is to spread XRP across multiple institutional custody platforms rather than consolidating it in one place.

“Have two or three or four different free institutional custody places,” he said. The reasoning ties directly to the Binance incident: “When you hear about these hacks, 99% of the time it’s hot wallet hacks.”

By distributing holdings, an investor limits total exposure if any single platform is compromised. He also emphasizes choosing platforms with longevity, “places that have been around for a long time,” as a measure of resilience and trustworthiness.

Combining Cold Storage With Custody

For those who prefer hardware wallets, he does not discourage it. He recommends combining cold storage with institutional custody: “If you’re going to use a hard wallet and then do some institutional custody or whatever, spread it out so that if something did happen somehow, some way, or you clicked on a bad link, you don’t lose it all.”

The strategy is not complex. Diversify custody, choose established platforms, and never concentrate risk in one place.
